Product description
Winemaking Named after Sir Robert Menzies, Australia’s longest-serving Prime Minister and lover of fine red wine, The Menzies is Yalumba’s flagship Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 vintage was sourced from old vines grown in the region’s famed terra rossa soils. Fermented in small batches and matured in French oak hogsheads and barriques for over a year, this wine is built for structure, power, and graceful ageing.
Bouquet Dark and aromatic with intense blackcurrant, mulberry, and dark cherry notes. Cedar, tobacco leaf, dried herbs, and graphite add layers of complexity and regional identity.
Palate Full-bodied and finely structured, with concentrated black fruit, savoury spice, and firm, elegant tannins. The mid-palate is plush yet restrained, finishing long and dry with notes of cocoa, bay leaf, and cassis.
Food Pairing Ideal with roast beef, lamb rack, venison, or hard aged cheeses. A classic match for rich, slow-cooked dishes and robust flavours.
Cellaring This vintage has the structure and balance to cellar gracefully for 10–15 years. Decanting recommended if drinking in its youth to open up the wine’s layered profile.
Interesting Fact Yalumba, one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, has been producing The Menzies since 1987. It remains a benchmark for Coonawarra Cabernet—elegant, expressive, and proudly grounded in heritage.
