Wirra Wirra proudly presents the Robert Strangways Wigley Shiraz, a tribute to the South Australian maverick and cricket luminary who laid the foundation for the winery in 1894. This flagship Shiraz epitomises McLaren Vale's stature as a premier producer of the varietal, boasting some of the world's oldest Shiraz vines. Embarking on a sensory journey, its rich plum hue, fading to a vibrant scarlet, offers a visual prelude to the opulence within. The nose is ensnared by a luxurious tapestry of fruit and spice, where musky florals, dark plum, red berries, dark chocolate, and sweet baking spice intertwine in a dense and intoxicating perfume. On the palate, a symphony of blue and red berry fruit dances with deep plums and dark chocolate, embraced by velvety fruit tannins and seasoned with fine-grained French oak. The finish, savoury and enduring, leaves a lingering impression of spice and richness. Crafted with meticulous care, vineyard batches undergo separate maturation in French oak, with the final blend revealing the synergy of new and aged barrels. Vinification, marked by small-batch fermentation and tailored maceration, ensures the preservation of distinct vineyard character, culminating in a wine of unparalleled complexity and finesse.
