Winemaking Vaulorent is the only Premier Cru vineyard on the Grand Cru hill, and its reputation reflects that elevated status. William Fèvre hand-harvests fruit from old vines rooted in classic Kimmeridgian marl, pressing gently and fermenting in a combination of stainless steel and neutral French oak. The wine is matured on lees for 12–14 months to enhance texture and mineral complexity while preserving purity and tension.
Bouquet A sophisticated nose of lemon pith, white peach, and crushed seashell is layered with floral notes and subtle smoky flint. There’s a fine chalky lift, giving clarity and precision from the first swirl.
Palate Energetic and fine-boned, this Premier Cru reveals citrus, green apple, and saline minerality across a structured, linear palate. The lees contact lends subtle creaminess, while the oak influence remains delicately in the background. The finish is long, stony, and mouth-watering—an expression of terroir at its most elegant.
Food Pairing Pair with fresh oysters, grilled paua, or lemon sole in beurre blanc. Excellent with goat’s cheese crostini, crayfish, or even delicate vegetable tempura. Serve lightly chilled.
Cellaring A wine that will evolve beautifully over time. Drink from 2024–2036 to enjoy its development from youthful tension to rounded complexity.
Interesting Fact Vaulorent is often described as a “shadow Grand Cru” because it shares the same slope and soil as Fourchaume and the adjacent Grand Cru Les Preuses—yet it remains classified as Premier Cru, offering exceptional value for its pedigree.
