Viña Pomal Reserva 2016 is a classic expression of Rioja Alta, produced by Bodegas Bilbaínas in the historic winemaking town of Haro. Made primarily from Tempranillo, the grapes are hand-harvested from estate vineyards and fermented in stainless steel before being aged for 18 months in American oak barrels, followed by an additional two years of bottle ageing. The result is a structured, refined wine that blends vibrant fruit with subtle maturity and spice.
Bouquet Elegant and expressive. Aromas of cherry, plum, and dried red berries are layered with vanilla, clove, tobacco leaf, and a touch of earthy leather.
Palate Medium-bodied with polished tannins and balanced acidity. Red fruit flavours are supported by warm spice, cedar, and dried herbs. The finish is long and savoury, with classic Rioja structure and finesse.
Food Pairing Perfect with roast lamb, chorizo stew, Manchego cheese, or chargrilled vegetables. Also lovely with mushroom paella or cured meats.
Cellaring Drinking beautifully now but will evolve gracefully through 2030. Store in cool, dark conditions to allow further integration and mellowing of tannins.
Interesting Fact The Viña Pomal brand dates back to 1908, and the Reserva remains one of Rioja’s most enduring styles—traditional in soul but crafted with precision and elegance.
