Winemaking Sourced from estate vineyards across Margaret River, the 2021 Filius Chardonnay reflects Vasse Felix’s precision winemaking and cool-climate style. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed and wild-fermented in French oak barriques (20% new), followed by 9 months on lees with gentle bâtonnage. Full malolactic fermentation adds richness, while natural acidity from the maritime climate brings freshness and vibrancy.
Bouquet The nose is bright and layered, with aromas of white peach, lemon curd and citrus blossom. Hints of cashew, flint and creamy oak lend savoury complexity and subtle warmth.
Palate Smooth and inviting, the palate delivers ripe stone fruit, zesty citrus and a creamy mid-palate balanced by fine acidity. A delicate oak influence adds spice and structure, leading to a fresh, mineral-driven finish. Elegant and polished with a modern Australian edge.
Food Pairing Pair with grilled seafood, roast chicken, or mushroom and herb risotto. Also delicious with goat cheese salad, pumpkin gnocchi or creamy pasta dishes.
Cellaring Ready to enjoy now, or cellar through 2027 for added savoury depth and texture.
Interesting Fact “Filius” means “son of” in Latin—this wine is the younger sibling to Vasse Felix’s estate and Heytesbury Chardonnays, offering pedigree and complexity at an exceptional value.
