Winemaking Filius, meaning ‘son of’ in Latin, is the younger sibling of Vasse Felix’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2022 vintage is a blend of estate-grown Cabernet with a touch of Malbec for added plushness. Fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barriques, it showcases the hallmark structure and elegance of Margaret River Cabernet in a more accessible style.
Bouquet Bright and aromatic with notes of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and red plum. Hints of bay leaf, cedar, and graphite add regional detail and lift.
Palate Medium-bodied and finely textured, with juicy dark fruit, fresh acidity, and polished tannins. Layers of cassis, cocoa, and savoury herbs flow into a dry, mineral finish with gentle oak support.
Food Pairing Pair with roast lamb, grilled steak, rosemary vegetables, or chargrilled portobello mushrooms. A great all-rounder for red meats and earthy flavours.
Interesting Fact Vasse Felix was the first winery established in Margaret River, and its Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of the region’s benchmark styles. Filius offers the same winemaking care and vineyard quality in a more youthful, drink-now format.
