From the ancient clay-rich soils of Upper Moutere, the 2021 Whenua Matua Chardonnay by Tohu Wines exemplifies the elegance and complexity that Nelson's terroir can offer. This single-vineyard expression showcases a harmonious balance between ripe fruit and refined structure.​

On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of ripe stone fruits, citrus peel, and subtle notes of hazelnut and flint. The palate is richly textured, featuring layers of nectarine, white peach, and a touch of spicy French oak, all balanced by a fine acid line that leads to a long, elegant finish.​

Hand-harvested and gently whole-bunch pressed, the wine underwent fermentation in French oak barrels, with a portion undergoing wild fermentation. Regular lees stirring and natural malolactic fermentation added depth and complexity to this Chardonnay.​
