Winemaking
Te Mata Coleraine is New Zealand’s most celebrated red wine, first produced in 1982 and now regarded as a national treasure. The 2022 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, grown on the estate’s oldest hillside vineyards. Hand-harvested and aged in new French oak barriques, Coleraine is crafted for longevity, precision, and elegance.

Bouquet
Intensely aromatic, with layers of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and blackberry, woven through cedar, graphite, violet, and a hint of baking spice. The nose is complex, refined, and already deeply expressive.

Palate
Structured and powerful, with concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and perfectly judged acidity. Notes of cassis, liquorice, cocoa, and tobacco unfold in seamless layers. The texture is silky yet commanding, with a long, mineral-driven finish that promises decades of evolution.

Food Pairing
Best enjoyed with premium cuts of beef, venison, or lamb. Also a superb match for truffle dishes, aged hard cheeses, or classic French cuisine.

Cellaring
While already impressive in its youth, Coleraine 2022 will reward careful cellaring for 15–20 years or more. Decant if drinking now to allow the full depth and detail to emerge.
