Winemaking Stonecroft is one of the founding wineries of the Gimblett Gravels, producing organic wines with serious depth and site expression. The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is made in small quantities from low-yielding vines grown on stony riverbed soils. Aged in French oak for 18 months, the result is powerful, structured, and true to its unique terroir.
Bouquet Intensely aromatic with blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry. Notes of tobacco, cedar, graphite, and dried herbs bring classic Cabernet complexity with a Hawke’s Bay twist.
Palate Full-bodied and firm with concentrated black fruit, savoury spice, and fine, gravelly tannins. A mineral edge and fresh acidity give energy and balance to the palate, finishing long and dry with excellent persistence.
Food Pairing Best served with grilled beef, rosemary lamb, portobello mushrooms, or aged hard cheeses. A wine that pairs beautifully with bold, earthy flavours.
Cellaring Drinking well now with a decant, but has the structure to develop gracefully over 8–12 years.
Interesting Fact Stonecroft was the first to plant vines in the Gimblett Gravels and remains certified organic. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is considered one of the most authentic expressions of this renowned Hawke’s Bay subregion—where hot days, cool nights, and gravelly soils create world-class reds.
