Winemaking The 2022 CRU Heretaunga Chardonnay is made from hand-picked fruit grown in the stony soils of the Heretaunga Plains in Hawke’s Bay. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (25% new), the wine underwent full malolactic fermentation and spent 11 months on lees with bâtonnage. This gentle, modern approach results in a wine with clarity, texture and a strong sense of place.
Bouquet The nose is fresh and inviting, with aromas of ripe citrus, white peach and lemon blossom. Hints of roasted cashew, flint and creamy oak spice add depth and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Palate Silky and beautifully balanced, the palate offers juicy stone fruit, citrus curd and subtle oak warmth. A fine mineral line and fresh acidity carry the wine to a long, elegant finish. It’s vibrant and textured, with an effortless flow that makes it both sophisticated and easy to enjoy.
Food Pairing Pair with grilled chicken, miso-glazed salmon, or creamy vegetable pasta. Also excellent with seafood risotto, goat cheese or a soft brie.
Cellaring Drinking well now but will evolve through 2030. With age, it will gain savoury richness, depth and added complexity.
