Grown just metres from the sea in Ruby Bay, Nelson, Sea Level’s Home Block Pinot Gris is a small-batch wine made with care and character. Fruit is hand-harvested from their gently sloping, sea-facing vineyard and fermented in stainless steel, with a portion aged on lees to enhance texture. Minimal intervention preserves the vineyard’s coastal influence—salt-tinged breezes, long sunny days, and cool nights—resulting in a wine that is vibrant, expressive, and distinctly site-driven.
Bouquet
Bright and lifted, with aromas of fresh pear, white peach, and citrus blossom. Notes of sea spray, crushed shell, and soft spice linger beneath the fruit, giving the wine a sense of place and freshness.
Palate
Clean and textural, with juicy stone fruit and poached pear gliding across the palate. A fine thread of acidity gives balance and drive, while lees contact brings a gentle creamy texture. The finish is long, lightly spiced, and savoury, with a whisper of coastal salinity—subtle but unmistakable.
Food Pairing
Excellent with grilled seafood, lemon and herb chicken, or a summer salad with fennel, pear, and blue cheese. Also lovely with vegetable antipasti or soft goat’s cheese on fresh sourdough.
Cellaring
Best enjoyed young for its coastal freshness and delicate lift, though can be cellared for up to 3–4 years, evolving softer texture and gentle honeyed notes with time.
