Crafted as a tribute to the late Peter Lehmann—one of the great figures in Australian wine—the Mentor Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from low-yielding Barossa vineyards, particularly in the cooler sub-regions that lend structure and elegance to this varietal. The 2019 vintage was warm and dry, producing small, intensely flavoured berries. The wine was matured in a combination of French oak hogsheads for 18 months, with select parcels chosen for their concentration, complexity, and cellaring potential.
Bouquet Rich and brooding, with aromas of cassis, black cherry, and dark plum. Underlying notes of tobacco leaf, cedar, cocoa, and baking spice create a classic Barossa Cabernet profile.
Palate Full-bodied and firm, yet beautifully composed. Layers of blackcurrant and mulberry are wrapped in fine-grained tannins, with hints of dark chocolate, liquorice, and toasted oak. A long, dry finish reveals savoury undertones and lasting fruit purity.
Food Pairing An excellent match for grilled lamb, beef short ribs, or rosemary-crusted venison. Also pairs well with mushroom pie, sharp cheddar, or a rich lentil and eggplant bake.
Cellaring Built to age. Enjoy now or cellar confidently through 2035+. The wine will soften and gain further complexity over time in ideal storage conditions.
