Winemaking Crafted from sustainably farmed bush vines grown on a patchwork of granite, schist, and iron-rich soils across Swartland, this Syrah reflects the Mullineux philosophy: site first, intervention minimal. The grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts and partial whole bunches, then aged for 11 months in older French oak barrels to allow purity, texture, and complexity to take centre stage.
Bouquet Lifted and aromatic with black cherry, blueberry, and plum skin, layered over violets, black pepper, dried herbs, and a touch of smoked earth. Intense yet fresh.
Palate Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, fine tannins, and a savoury, mineral-driven core. Flavours of dark berry, cracked pepper, and dry herbs unfurl over a precise, textured frame. The finish is long and quietly powerful.
Food Pairing Superb with rosemary lamb, Moroccan-spiced eggplant, chargrilled venison, or hard cheeses. A Syrah made for earthy, spice-driven cuisine.
Cellaring Excellent now with decanting, but will reward cellaring for 8–10+ years, evolving with grace and complexity.
Interesting Fact Mullineux is one of South Africa’s most awarded wineries, and this Syrah showcases the wild beauty of Swartland’s dry-farmed vineyards—focusing on expression over excess.
