Produced from the historic Meerlust Estate in Stellenbosch, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on well-drained granite and clay soils, contributing to the wine’s structure and finesse. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with extended maceration, followed by 18 months in French oak, 60% of which is new, for added complexity and ageing potential.
Bouquet Classic and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and mulberry. Notes of graphite, cedar, violet, and tobacco leaf bring elegance and regional expression.
Palate Full-bodied and focused, with firm yet refined tannins and a deep core of black fruit. Savoury elements of earth, spice, and dried herbs evolve on the palate, finishing long and dry with balanced acidity and freshness.
Food Pairing Ideal with roast beef, rack of lamb, wild mushrooms, or aged hard cheeses. Also excellent with slow-cooked venison or dishes featuring rosemary and garlic.
Cellaring This vintage is drinking beautifully now with decanting but will continue to evolve gracefully for another 8–12 years in the cellar.
Interesting Fact Meerlust is one of South Africa’s most iconic estates, with a winemaking history dating back to 1756. The estate is best known for its Bordeaux-style reds, and this single-varietal Cabernet showcases their signature balance of old-world elegance and new-world purity.
