Just been crowned Champion NZ Pinot Noir at the prestigious International Wine Challenge – the toughest wine show in the world.
The McArthur Ridge Brassknocker Central Otago Pinot Noir presents itself with an alluring bouquet, erupting from the glass with aromas of freshly foraged red berries, cranberries, and subtle crushed herbs. A delicate saline freshness lifts the nose, inviting you to savour its intensity over and over again.
On the palate, it’s beautifully structured with plush, ripe cherry and plum flavours encased in silky, gravelly tannins. These smooth, chalky tannins provide the perfect framework for the wine, giving it the balance and depth expected from a Pinot that pairs wonderfully with food and shows potential for graceful aging. Subtle hints of oak spice and vanilla weave through the fruit, adding layers of intrigue and complexity.
The Savory, fine herb nuances, combined with a touch of meaty character, create a lasting impression that’s both vibrant and refined. Although youthful, this Pinot Noir already shows great promise, with its elegant and expressive nature being a true reflection of Central Otago’s terroir. The supple texture and soft tannins make this wine immediately enjoyable, yet it holds the potential to develop deeper, more brooding qualities over the next 3-5 years in the cellar.
