The 2024 East Block Riesling is a limited release from Maude’s Wanaka vineyard, grown on steep north-facing slopes with schist-rich soils. The grapes were hand-picked at optimal ripeness and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation was cool and slow in stainless steel, using selected yeasts to preserve purity and finesse. A touch of residual sugar balances the natural acidity, resulting in a beautifully poised off-dry Riesling with texture and length.
Bouquet Bright and lifted with aromas of lime blossom, green apple and white peach. Subtle notes of honeysuckle, jasmine and flint bring complexity and floral elegance.
Palate Off-dry and refined with crisp acidity and a silky texture. Flavours of lemon curd, mandarin and orchard fruit unfold across a mineral-laced palate. The finish is long, clean and delicately savoury.
Food Pairing Ideal with Thai green curry, pork dumplings, goat’s cheese or spiced vegetable dishes. Also delicious with grilled white fish or as an aperitif.
Cellaring Drinking beautifully now but will cellar gracefully through 2034, developing honeyed depth and added complexity.
Interesting Fact Maude’s East Block is one of Wanaka’s most prized vineyard parcels, producing small quantities of single-block wines that highlight the subregion’s alpine clarity and ageing potential.
