Product description
Winemaking This single-vineyard Chardonnay comes from the Lowburn subregion of Central Otago, where cool nights and stony soils deliver purity and tension. Fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, with fermentation taking place in French oak barriques using indigenous yeasts. A portion underwent full malolactic fermentation, and the wine was aged on lees for 10 months, with bâtonnage adding creamy texture and depth. Made in small volumes with minimal intervention.
Bouquet The nose is lifted and refined, showing white peach, lemon zest and crisp apple. Notes of hazelnut, flint and gentle oak spice unfold with time in the glass, hinting at the wine’s mineral roots.
Palate Bright and inviting, the palate flows with juicy citrus and stone fruit, carried by a creamy mid-palate and fine acidity. A subtle savoury layer brings structure and interest, leading to a clean, focused finish. Elegant and expressive, with beautiful balance and drive.
Food Pairing Excellent with grilled fish, roast chicken, or a goat cheese and leek tart. Also pairs well with creamy seafood pasta, vegetable risotto or lightly aged cheeses.
Cellaring Enjoy now or cellar through 2030. Time in bottle will bring added nutty depth and textural richness.
Interesting Fact Matt Connell is best known for his expressive Pinot Noirs, but his Chardonnay—sourced from a single Lowburn vineyard—quietly showcases his minimalist winemaking and deep respect for place.
