Main Divide Pinot Noir 2022 is made by the Donaldson family in North Canterbury, under the Pegasus Bay umbrella. Using traditional Burgundian methods, the wine includes a portion of whole-bunch fermentation, gentle hand plunging, and ageing in French oak barriques for over a year. These techniques enhance both complexity and texture, offering a truly regional expression.
Bouquet The nose is lifted and aromatic, with notes of rhubarb, cherry, and pomegranate. Earthy undertones of mushroom, wood spice and a touch of violet round out the bouquet.
Palate On the palate, this Pinot is smooth and velvety. Red and dark fruit flavours dominate, supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. A touch of oak and lees ageing adds depth and structure, leading to a savoury, persistent finish.
Food Pairing An ideal match for roast duck, venison, mushroom risotto, or herb-crusted lamb. Its balance of fruit and earthiness makes it an exceptional food wine.
Cellaring Drinking well now, but will continue to evolve gracefully until 2029, revealing greater depth and tertiary complexity over time.
Interesting Fact The name ‘Main Divide’ refers to the Southern Alps, which form the backbone of New Zealand’s South Island and help shape the unique microclimate of North Canterbury.
