Crafted by the acclaimed Pegasus Bay team, Main Divide Pinot Gris 2024 comes from vineyards nestled beneath the dramatic Southern Alps. The cool North Canterbury climate delivers long, slow ripening, preserving natural acidity while building flavour concentration. Fermentation is carried out with a mix of wild and cultured yeasts, in stainless steel and old oak, followed by time on lees to enhance texture and richness. A small amount of retained sweetness is balanced by zesty acidity for a seamless, off-dry style.
Bouquet
Intensely aromatic with ripe pear, baked apple, and quince, woven through with floral notes of honeysuckle and rose petal. Beneath the fruit lies a subtle thread of ginger, nutmeg, and almond pastry, adding warmth and depth.
Palate
Lush and textural, with mouth-coating richness offset by a lively mineral edge. Flavours of spiced pear, yellow plum, and citrus zest unfold across the palate, supported by a creamy mid-weight texture and a finish that’s long, elegant, and lightly off-dry. It’s a Pinot Gris with real presence and poise.
Food Pairing
Pair with pork and apple sausages, Thai pumpkin curry, or a blue cheese and walnut salad. Also lovely with roasted root vegetables and a drizzle of honeyed vinaigrette.
Cellaring
Delicious now for its bold aromatics and supple texture, but can cellar for 4–6 years, evolving towards honeyed, nutty complexity while retaining freshness.
