Crafted by the Brajkovich family in Kumeu, the 2023 Estate Chardonnay is a benchmark for New Zealand Chardonnay. Fruit from six prime vineyards was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, and wild fermented in French oak barrels. Partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees ageing enhance texture and complexity without sacrificing precision.
Bouquet Vibrant citrus and white peach aromas rise from the glass, layered with fine oak spice, struck flint and hints of toasted almond.
Palate The palate is finely balanced with energy and elegance. Crisp nectarine and lemon zest are carried by a creamy texture and flinty minerality, unfolding into notes of brioche and cashew. A seamless, saline finish reinforces this wine’s finesse and structure.
Food Pairing Perfect with grilled chicken, crayfish, creamy mushroom pasta or baked brie with sourdough. A versatile food wine with classic styling.
Cellaring Drink now or cellar for 5 to 8 years to reveal deeper complexity and richness.
Interesting Fact Kumeu River is globally recognised for producing some of the world’s best Chardonnay outside Burgundy, and has earned accolades in blind tastings against top-tier French estates.
