Made by Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines in the Swartland region of South Africa, Kloof Street Chenin Blanc 2022 comes from sustainably farmed bush vines on granite-based soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, then naturally fermented in stainless steel and older French oak barrels. A short period on lees adds texture while maintaining freshness, resulting in a vibrant yet layered expression of South Africa’s flagship white grape.
Bouquet Aromatic and clean, with notes of white peach, quince, lemon zest and wild herbs. Subtle hints of flint and almond skin add depth and minerality.
Palate Dry and energetic with a lovely tension between fruit and acidity. Flavours of ripe pear, grapefruit and chamomile lead into a zesty, saline finish with a chalky texture.
Food Pairing Ideal with grilled fish, herby roast chicken, courgette fritters or goat’s cheese. Also a great match for seafood risotto or lemony pasta.
Interesting Fact South Africa has the largest plantings of Chenin Blanc in the world, and producers like Kloof Street are leading the way in showing how expressive and food-friendly it can be when grown in the right soils with minimal intervention.
