Winemaking Ex-Voto is Guigal’s tribute to the sacred slopes of Hermitage, crafted only in vintages deemed exceptional. The 2018 is made entirely from old-vine Syrah grown on the famed lieux-dits of Bessards, Greffieux, and L’Hermite—sites known for producing wines of immense structure and complexity. The wine is fermented traditionally and aged for 42 months in 100% new French oak, resulting in a wine of extraordinary richness, power, and longevity.
Bouquet Deep and enveloping, with aromas of blackberry, cassis, incense, black olive, and smoked meat. Layers of spice, tobacco, leather, and dark earth unfold with time in the glass, revealing stunning aromatic depth.
Palate Full-bodied and commanding, yet beautifully balanced. Dark fruit, spice, and mineral notes are interwoven with firm tannins and a dense core of savoury flavour. The finish is long, structured, and endlessly complex—built for contemplation.
Food Pairing Pair with braised venison, slow-cooked beef cheeks, roasted game, or truffle-infused dishes. A wine best enjoyed with aged meat and time-honoured fare.
Cellaring A serious cellar candidate—can age gracefully for 25–30 years. Decant for several hours if enjoying young to allow the wine to fully express its grandeur.
Interesting Fact The name Ex-Voto refers to an offering of gratitude. Guigal uses it to honour the land of Hermitage and their family’s commitment to crafting profound wines from this sacred Rhône terroir.
