Winemaking La Mouline comes from a steep amphitheatre vineyard in the Côte Blonde, where ancient vines (some over 75 years old) thrive on granite and limestone soils. The 2012 vintage saw a slow and balanced ripening season, producing fruit of stunning aromatic intensity. Co-fermented from around 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier, the wine was aged for 42 months in 100% new French oak—Guigal’s signature élevage that imparts polish and complexity while preserving the purity of site.
Bouquet Highly perfumed with violets, dark cherry, and raspberry, layered with smoked meat, exotic spice, sandalwood, and a touch of floral honey. Fragrant, deep, and alluring.
Palate Silky and layered, with supple tannins and precise balance. Red and black fruits glide across the palate, supported by savoury spice, cured meat, and a long mineral finish. Ethereal in texture yet anchored by depth and structure.
Food Pairing Perfect alongside duck breast, mushroom and truffle dishes, venison medallions, or aged soft cheeses. A wine to serve with care and reverence.
Cellaring Entering a superb drinking window now, with structure and freshness to evolve gracefully for 15–20+ years. Decant for full aromatic expression.
Interesting Fact La Mouline was the first of Guigal’s single-vineyard Côte-Rôties, released in 1966. It’s often considered the most elegant and Burgundian of the “La La” wines—sought-after by collectors for its grace and ageing potential.
