Winemaking Greywacke Chardonnay is a barrel-fermented, wild-yeast style that blends complexity, texture, and natural vibrancy. Crafted from low-yielding vines in the Southern Valleys, the 2022 vintage was fermented in French oak (20% new) and aged on lees for 18 months to create a layered, mineral-driven expression.
Bouquet Elegant aromas of ripe grapefruit, white peach, and toasted cashew, with hints of struck flint, lemon curd, and brioche adding tension and depth.
Palate Full-bodied and finely structured with juicy citrus and stone fruit layered over a creamy, leesy texture. Subtle oak, flinty minerality, and mouth-watering acidity lead into a long, precise finish.
Food Pairing Perfect with roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy pasta, or grilled artichoke. A Chardonnay that excels with rich yet refined dishes.
Cellaring Delicious now but will evolve gracefully over 6–8 years, gaining savoury, nutty complexity with time.
Interesting Fact Named after the ancient greywacke rock found in Marlborough’s soils, this wine reflects both place and winemaking precision—crafted by Kevin Judd, founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay.
