Winemaking Crafted from select parcels in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, this single-vineyard Pinot Noir showcases the richness and depth the subregion is known for. The 2020 vintage saw warm, dry conditions, allowing optimal ripeness. Hand-harvested fruit was cold soaked for vibrancy, then fermented with wild yeasts and aged for 11 months in French oak (30% new). The result is a bold yet balanced expression with structure, spice, and finesse.
Bouquet The nose is layered and generous – dark cherry, plum and boysenberry lead, followed by hints of cinnamon, cedar, and dried herbs. A subtle earthy note brings authenticity and intrigue.
Palate This is a Pinot Noir of richness and texture. Juicy black fruits meet fine oak spice and supple tannins, creating a palate that’s mouthfilling yet refined. There's a lovely savoury thread that adds complexity, while well-integrated acidity lifts the long, spicy finish. A wine with both power and polish.
Food Pairing Pair with venison loin, roast duck with cherry jus, or smoky eggplant dishes. Excellent alongside aged cheddar or a mushroom and lentil Wellington.
Cellaring Drinking well now, but built to cellar through to 2030 – expect greater depth and forest floor complexity over time.
Interesting Fact The Southern Valleys of Marlborough are planted on older clay-based soils, quite different from the region’s famous Wairau gravels. These soils give Pinot Noir more structure, depth, and darker fruit character – all beautifully on show in this 2020 release from Greg.
