This Chardonnay is crafted from hand-picked grapes sourced from select parcels in Marlborough's Wairau and Southern Valleys. The vineyards, chosen for their heavier soils, contribute to the wine's notable minerality. Fermentation occurs in 300L French oak hogsheads at warmer temperatures to build texture. A portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, adding richness and roundness, while maturation in French and German oak barrels, including 12% new barrels, imparts subtle oak character without overshadowing the fruit.
Bouquet: The nose presents enticing aromas of white peach and lemon, complemented by notes of toasted hazelnut and a hint of flint.
Palate: On the palate, this Chardonnay offers a rich, concentrated experience, with bright zest balancing the fruit sweetness. Flavors of ripe lemon and peach are prominent, with grapefruit nuances on the finish. The wine's minerality and balanced acidity contribute to its complexity and length.
Food Pairing: This versatile Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, roast chicken, or creamy pasta dishes. Its balanced profile also complements dishes featuring mushrooms or soft cheeses.
Serving Temperature: For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine chilled between 10°C and 12°C (50°F to 54°F).
Cellaring Potential: While delightful now, this wine will continue to develop complexity over the next 3–5 years.
