From the heart of Martinborough, Dry River’s 2023 Lovat Gewürztraminer is crafted from mature vines on the Lovat Vineyard, known for producing deeply expressive, age-worthy wines. Low-yielding fruit is hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, then fermented in stainless steel with extended lees contact for added complexity. A small portion is matured in neutral oak to build texture without masking varietal character. The result is a richly layered, yet finely balanced, expression of Gewürztraminer.
Bouquet Fragrant and complex, with classic notes of rose petal, lychee, and Turkish delight. Subtle layers of orange blossom, ginger spice, and beeswax add intrigue.
Palate Opulent and full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel. Flavours of ripe stone fruit, mandarin, and spice are offset by vibrant acidity. A gentle touch of residual sugar carries through to a long, perfumed finish with excellent tension and harmony.
Food Pairing A stunning match for Thai green curry, Moroccan tagines, or duck with plum sauce. Also pairs beautifully with aged gouda, apricot tart, or saffron-spiced vegetables.
Cellaring Drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve through 2030 and beyond. Cellaring brings added savoury depth and aromatic complexity.
Interesting Fact Dry River was one of the first wineries to champion Gewürztraminer in New Zealand, and their Lovat Vineyard has become a benchmark site for this expressive varietal.
