Distillation Hand-distilled at The Shed Distillery in rural County Leitrim, Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is a curious fusion of traditional Irish distilling and global botanical inspiration. It’s slowly distilled in copper pot stills and vapour-infused with fresh botanicals, including the rare Chinese gunpowder green tea that gives the gin its name.
Botanicals Juniper, angelica root, coriander, orris root, cardamom, star anise, caraway, meadowsweet, and citrus peels are blended with exotic additions like kaffir lime, oriental grapefruit, and gunpowder tea. The result is a gin that is bright, zesty, and layered with spice and earthiness.
Palate Fresh and bold with vibrant citrus notes up front. Juniper sits smoothly in the background while oriental tea and warming spices build complexity. The finish is long, clean, and slightly herbal, with a lingering citrus lift and earthy undertone.
Serving Suggestions Serve with a premium tonic and a wedge of fresh grapefruit. Also excellent in citrus-forward martinis or in a Gunpowder Negroni for a modern twist on a classic.
Interesting Fact The term gunpowder tea refers to a type of green tea from China where each leaf is rolled into a small pellet. This unique ingredient lends both flavour and name to one of Ireland’s most internationally recognised and awarded gins.
