Product description
Clos des Mouches is one of Beaune’s most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards, sitting on the southern slope near Pommard. Domaine Chanson owns a significant holding here and practices meticulous vineyard management and sustainable viticulture. The 2020 vintage is crafted from hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes, vinified in small vats and aged in French oak barrels (with a modest proportion new) for 14–18 months in Chanson’s historic 15th-century cellars.
Bouquet Elegant and aromatic with notes of wild raspberry, red cherry and violet. Layers of fine spice, toasted oak and forest floor emerge with air, underpinned by earthy minerality and subtle floral lift.
Palate Silky, vibrant and structured. Red berry fruit leads the way, supported by fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a savoury thread of spice and dried herbs. The oak is well-integrated, lending subtle vanilla and cedar notes. The finish is long, refined and mineral-driven, promising superb ageing potential.
Food Pairing An excellent match for duck breast, mushroom risotto, herb-crusted lamb or roast chicken with thyme. Also pairs beautifully with soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux or aged Comté.
Cellaring While already expressive, this wine will reward cellaring through 2035 and beyond. Decant for an hour if drinking young to allow full aromatic and textural development.
Interesting Fact The name "Clos des Mouches" comes from the old French word for bees—mouches à miel—as this sun-drenched slope was once a favoured site for beehives due to its warmth and exposure.
