D.O.M. Bénédictine is a legendary French liqueur first created by Alexandre Le Grand in the 19th century, inspired by an old monastic recipe said to date back to 1510. Produced in Fécamp, Normandy, it’s crafted from a base of Cognac-quality spirit, meticulously blended with 27 herbs and spices sourced from around the world. Key botanicals include angelica, hyssop, myrrh, saffron, cardamom, and lemon balm. The spirit undergoes a delicate maceration and ageing process in oak casks, which imparts depth and a velvety texture.
Bouquet A complex and luxurious nose full of aromatic herbs, warm spices, and citrus peel. Hints of honey, nutmeg, and liquorice swirl with soft floral undertones and a subtle whisper of anise.
Palate Rich, smooth, and full-bodied with a layered flavour profile. Notes of sweet spice, dried fruit, and herbal complexity unfold slowly. Expect cinnamon, clove, and orange marmalade, followed by a silky finish that balances sweetness with gentle bitterness and a faint, warming bite. A harmonious and opulent liqueur.
Food Pairing Perfect served neat or over ice as a digestif. It also adds a touch of magic to cocktails—try it in a classic B&B (equal parts Bénédictine and brandy), or in culinary pairings with dark chocolate, almond desserts, or a French tarte Tatin.
Cellaring Exceptionally shelf-stable. Store upright in a cool, dark place and enjoy over several years. Once opened, flavours remain vivid for 12–24 months.
Interesting Fact The initials D.O.M. stand for Deo Optimo Maximo—“To God, most good, most great”—a traditional Benedictine motto. While the monastic recipe is steeped in legend, the exact blend of botanicals remains a closely guarded secret to this day.
