Winemaking Sourced from the cool, coastal Te Awanga Vineyard in Hawke’s Bay, the 2023 Kidnappers Chardonnay was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in a mix of stainless steel and seasoned French oak barriques. Partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees ageing add softness and complexity, while preserving freshness and tension. This wine reflects a restrained, Chablis-inspired style that showcases coastal terroir.
Bouquet The nose is fresh and lifted, with notes of lemon peel, green apple and white florals. Underneath, subtle hints of wet stone, almond and saline breeze bring quiet complexity.
Palate Bright and inviting, the palate delivers juicy citrus and crisp pear over a fine mineral backbone. A light creaminess from the lees adds balance and texture without weight. The finish is long, saline and elegant—showing clarity and finesse.
Food Pairing A perfect match for oysters, grilled snapper or fresh goat cheese. Also delicious with seafood risotto, herb-roasted chicken or vegetable tart.
Cellaring Drink now or enjoy through 2028. With time, it will gain gentle savoury notes and added textural depth.
Interesting Fact The name "Kidnappers" refers to Cape Kidnappers, the dramatic cliffside headland near the vineyard. Its cooling sea breezes help shape this Chardonnay’s signature freshness and purity.
