Te Kahu, meaning “The Cloak” in Te Reo Māori, is Craggy Range’s celebrated Bordeaux-style blend from the Gimblett Gravels subregion of Hawke’s Bay. The 2022 vintage combines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, grown on deep gravel soils that radiate heat and drive ripeness. Fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months, the wine balances richness with structure and polish.
Bouquet Fragrant and brooding with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and dried herbs. Hints of cedar, cocoa, pencil shavings and baking spice add complexity and lift.
Palate Full-bodied and silky with refined tannins and generous dark fruit. Layers of blackberry, dark cherry and mocha flow over a plush mid-palate, finishing long with savoury oak and mineral freshness.
Food Pairing Ideal with roast lamb, beef fillet, mushroom Wellington or aged cheddar. Also excellent with grilled venison or hearty vegetarian casseroles.
Cellaring Enjoy now or cellar confidently through 2030. Time will reveal greater integration and secondary notes of earth and spice.
Interesting Fact Craggy Range is one of the few wineries to release single-vineyard wines every year, and Te Kahu consistently offers exceptional value from their iconic Gimblett Gravels site.
