Winemaking Produced from stony vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels subregion of Hawke’s Bay, this Syrah is crafted in a northern Rhône style—elegant, spicy, and perfumed. The 2021 vintage was fermented with a portion of whole bunches and matured in French oak, enhancing aromatic lift, structure, and finesse.
Bouquet Aromatic and expressive with violet, cracked pepper, and blueberry. Subtle notes of smoked meat, clove, and dried herbs add complexity.
Palate Silky and medium-bodied with juicy dark berry fruit, fine tannins, and savoury spice. A cool-climate freshness runs through the finish, which is long, dry, and mineral-laced.
Food Pairing Excellent with venison, chargrilled lamb, mushroom ragoût, or aubergine. A Syrah that elevates both rustic and refined dishes.
Cellaring Drinking well now but will reward cellaring over 8–10 years. A short decant enhances aromatics and texture.
Interesting Fact Craggy Range was among the pioneers of Syrah in Gimblett Gravels, helping establish the area as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s top spots for cool-climate expressions of the variety.
