A beautifully expressive Syrah from an outstanding Hawke’s Bay vintage, the 2020 Cooper’s Creek Classic Syrah showcases deep red hues with a vibrant purple edge. The nose is rich and inviting, offering layers of blackberry, cherry, and plum, complemented by lifted floral notes of jasmine and warm spice accents of cinnamon and vanilla. Subtle savoury umami tones add complexity.

The palate is finely balanced, with a bright, mid-weight feel and silky tannins that glide across the front palate, delivering a succulent mouthfeel and a long, flavoursome finish.

The Classic range of wines seeks to capture the essence of New Zealand’s winemaking regions. Our Syrah comes from Hawke’s Bay, the premier wine region for this variety, and is crafted with a conservative winemaking approach to preserve its unique beauty.

Harvested from the beautiful Chalk Ridge Vineyard, the 2020 growing season in Hawke’s Bay was exceptional for Syrah. Early season rainfall set up the vineyard for ripening fruit in April. While the season wasn’t especially hot, the intensity of light was notably different from other years, resulting in exceptional colour, a modest alcohol level, and a lovely overall balance and freshness.

A versatile partner to Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine, this Syrah also pairs beautifully with red game meats, enhancing the rich, spiced flavours of both the food and the wine. Enjoy now or cellar until 2029 for further development.
