Declared only in exceptional years, the 2017 vintage marks a powerful return for Cockburn’s, showcasing the finest fruit from their iconic Quinta dos Canais estate in the Douro. Foot-trodden in traditional lagares and aged for two years before bottling, this port is built for longevity and grandeur.
Bouquet A brooding and complex nose of blackcurrant, damson plum, and wild berries, layered with hints of liquorice root, cigar box, and cracked pepper. A youthful vibrancy pulses through the aromatics.
Palate Bold, dense, and magnificently structured. The palate delivers concentrated dark fruit—black cherry, cassis, and fig—wrapped in graphite tannins and fresh acidity. Spiced clove and cocoa linger long on a dry, muscular finish.
Food Pairing Pair with aged gouda or blue cheese, or serve alongside dark chocolate truffles and berry compote. Equally striking with roasted New Zealand venison and blackcurrant jus for a special occasion.
Cellaring This is a vintage port designed for long-term cellaring. Best enjoyed from 2030 onwards, but will evolve gracefully well past 2050.
Interesting Fact The 2017 vintage was declared across all major houses—the first back-to-back general declaration in decades—making it a collector’s dream.
