Church Road’s 2024 Pinot Gris is a refined expression of Hawke’s Bay fruit, sourced from vineyard sites selected for ripeness, flavour concentration, and natural balance. A portion of the juice is fermented in old French oak barrels to build texture and savoury complexity, while the remainder undergoes cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve freshness and aromatic lift. Lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation round out the wine’s silky, off-dry style.
Bouquet
Fragrant and expressive, the nose opens with ripe pear, nectarine, and citrus blossom, followed by a gentle thread of ginger spice, nougat, and almond meal. A soft floral lift gives elegance and charm.
Palate
Medium-bodied with a creamy, rounded texture and beautifully integrated acidity. Juicy pear and baked apple are supported by subtle spice and a touch of lemon curd. The oak influence is subtle but adds weight and depth, leading to a long, harmonious finish that sits just off-dry.
Food Pairing
Perfect with roast pork and apple sauce, butternut ravioli with brown butter, or a mild Thai curry. Also delightful with grilled halloumi and stone fruit salad.
Cellaring
Delicious now for its generous fruit and soft texture, but can be cellared for 3–4 years to develop richer, honeyed and nutty complexity while retaining its balanced style.
