Château La Mondotte is a tiny but elite Grand Cru Classé estate from Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, owned by the renowned Neipperg family. The 2010 vintage is a benchmark year, delivering extraordinary power, precision, and age-worthiness. The blend is typically 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, grown on just 4.5 hectares of old vines rooted in clay-limestone soils. Hand-harvested grapes are fermented in small temperature-controlled vats, followed by ageing in 100% new French oak for 18–24 months. The result is an opulent, modern-style Right Bank wine with remarkable finesse and depth.
Bouquet Dark, rich, and seductive. Aromas of ripe black plum, cassis, and blackberry compote dominate, with layers of espresso, dark chocolate, incense, and crushed violets. Notes of graphite, liquorice, and toasty oak emerge as the wine opens.
Palate Full-bodied and unashamedly luxurious. The palate is densely packed with dark fruit, mocha, and spice, supported by firm yet polished tannins. Intense minerality from the limestone soils adds tension and elegance. A wine of immense structure and length, finishing with lingering dark fruit, sweet tobacco, and a touch of truffle.
Food Pairing Best paired with equally rich and refined dishes—think slow-braised beef cheek, venison loin, or duck with black cherry sauce. Also excellent with aged hard cheeses or black truffle-infused cuisine. Decant for at least 2–3 hours if drinking young.
Cellaring A wine built for long-term cellaring. Drink from 2025 onwards, with a peak window from 2030–2050. Store under ideal cellar conditions to allow full expression and evolution.
