Crafted only in the most exceptional vintages, L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is one of the most decadent and sought-after sweet wines of Bordeaux. Made by the Dubourdieu family in Barsac, this cuvée is composed predominantly of Sémillon (with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc), harvested berry by berry at the height of botrytis cinerea (noble rot). The 2010 vintage brought perfect conditions for concentration and balance. Fermented and aged in 100% new oak barrels, this wine is a showcase of power, purity, and precision—produced in minuscule quantities.
Bouquet A heady, luxurious nose with layers of dried apricot, passionfruit, pineapple, orange marmalade, and honeycomb. Exotic spice, crème brûlée, and floral notes of honeysuckle and jasmine add further dimension and aromatic depth.
Palate Incredibly rich and textured, yet lifted by vibrant acidity. Lush tropical fruit and candied citrus are seamlessly integrated with vanilla bean, almond cream, and sweet spice. Despite its density and sweetness, the balance is impeccable—elegant, harmonious, and endlessly complex. The finish is near eternal, with echoes of botrytised fruit, toast, and mineral freshness.
Food Pairing Best served lightly chilled in small pours with foie gras, blue cheese, tarte Tatin, or spiced tropical desserts. For a luxurious match, try with saffron panna cotta or a sliver of Roquefort.
Cellaring This is a wine for decades. Drink from now through 2060+, as it will continue to evolve beautifully in bottle. Store lying down in perfect cellar conditions.
Interesting Fact The name L’Extravagant is no exaggeration—it was coined by Denis Dubourdieu in 1990 when the first release stunned critics with its sheer concentration and finesse. Each vintage is a rare, hand-crafted marvel, often produced in quantities of just a few hundred cases.
