Made from Muscadelle, a rare white grape, this fortified wine is a golden counterpart to Rutherglen Muscat. The grapes are harvested late for maximum concentration, then partially fermented and fortified with neutral spirit, preserving natural sweetness. Aged for several years in a solera system of seasoned oak casks, the wine gains extraordinary complexity, warmth, and smoothness—hallmarks of the Campbells style.
Bouquet
Rich and inviting, with notes of butterscotch, toffee apple, and dried fig, woven with hints of sultana, vanilla, and candied citrus peel. There’s an old-world warmth here, balanced by aromatic lift and toasted nuttiness.
Palate
Velvety and unctuous, with layers of caramel, honeycomb, and burnt orange carried by fresh acidity and soft oak spice. The sweetness is deep but beautifully balanced, leading to a long, seamless finish with lingering notes of roasted nuts and golden sultana.
Food Pairing
Perfect with bread and butter pudding, pecan pie, or aged cheddar. Also brilliant with crème brûlée, roasted almonds, or simply sipped slowly after dinner.
Interesting Fact
Once known as “Tokay,” this wine was renamed “Topaque” in 2010 to preserve the integrity of European place names under international agreement. It remains one of the world’s only expressions of Muscadelle, and Campbells is considered a benchmark producer of this rare and golden style.
Cellaring
Ready to enjoy now, and will keep for many years once opened if stored cool and sealed. Unopened, it can cellar for 10–15 years, evolving greater richness and nutty depth.
