Finca La Pedrissa is a single-vineyard expression from Bodegas Edetària, showcasing the depth and structure of old-vine Carignan—known locally as Samsó—grown in the stony, slate-rich soils of Terra Alta, Catalonia. These vines, over 60 years old, produce tiny yields of intensely flavoured fruit. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 12–14 months in large-format French oak barrels, the 2016 vintage captures the rugged elegance of the region, blending Mediterranean ripeness with mineral finesse and natural balance.
Bouquet Deep and brooding with aromas of black cherry, damson plum, and mulberry. Notes of leather, wild herbs, cracked pepper, and black olive add savoury complexity, while graphite and mineral hints reflect the stony soils.
Palate Full-bodied and structured with impressive intensity. Concentrated dark fruit is wrapped in firm, ripe tannins, balanced by refreshing acidity. Flavours of blueberry, smoked meat, and bitter chocolate unfold across the palate, leading to a long, earthy finish with lingering spice and wild herb character. A bold yet refined Carignan with genuine ageing potential.
Food Pairing Perfect with grilled lamb, beef brisket, spiced lentil dishes, or game meats. Also delicious with Manchego cheese, charred aubergine, or rosemary-roasted mushrooms. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to fully open up.
Cellaring Ready to enjoy now, but will continue to develop beautifully through 2030–2035. Store in a cool, dark place for optimal ageing.
