Produced in Yecla, southeastern Spain, Hécula Monastrell 2022 is made from old bush vines grown on limestone-rich soils at elevation. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for several months in French and American oak, striking a balance between bold fruit, savoury spice, and smooth texture. It’s a benchmark example of modern Spanish Monastrell—rich, structured, and full of personality.
Bouquet Generous aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and black plum with lifted notes of black pepper, anise, and a touch of vanilla oak.
Palate Full-bodied and plush. Ripe dark fruit meets earthy spice, with hints of cocoa, clove, and toasted oak. Fine tannins and fresh acidity give balance and a long, satisfying finish.
Food Pairing Excellent with grilled lamb, beef skewers, or smoky eggplant. Also great with chorizo, hard cheeses, or rich vegetarian casseroles.
Cellaring Drinking beautifully now but will evolve nicely through 2027.
Interesting Fact Hécula is named after Yecla’s ancient Roman name and has become a flagship for the Monastrell grape—proving that Spain’s lesser-known regions can deliver world-class quality and value.
