Winemaking Crafted by one of New Zealand’s most respected small producers, Bilancia Syrah is a blend of fruit from the celebrated La Collina hillside vineyard and select valley-floor sites across Hawke’s Bay. Fermentation in open-top vessels with a portion of whole bunches brings lift and texture, while ageing in seasoned French oak for 16 months allows the wine’s purity and savoury character to shine through.
Bouquet Aromatic and complex, with notes of wild blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry layered over black pepper, violet, smoked meat, and crushed herbs. Refined and expressive.
Palate Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and polished tannins. The palate unfolds with dark fruit, spice, and mineral energy, finishing long, dry, and savoury. A Syrah of balance and quiet power.
Food Pairing Perfect with herb-crusted lamb, roast duck, mushroom ragù, or grilled aubergine. A food-friendly red that lends itself to thoughtful meals and seasonal produce.
Cellaring Drinking beautifully now, but will reward cellaring for 8–10 years with increased complexity and texture.
Interesting Fact The name Bilancia comes from the Italian word for “balance”—a philosophy that underpins every wine they make. This Syrah is a textbook example of restraint meeting character.
