The Beach House Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2021 is crafted from hand-harvested grapes sourced from the renowned Gimblett Gravels winegrowing region in Hawke’s Bay. After careful selection, the fruit undergoes a cold soak to extract vibrant colour and flavour before fermentation in open-top fermenters. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, for 18 months to develop depth and complexity. The result is a Syrah that reflects the distinctive terroir of Gimblett Gravels, showcasing the region's ability to produce elegant, structured reds.
Bouquet The nose is rich and inviting, with intense aromas of dark berry fruits, black pepper, and a hint of smokiness. Subtle notes of floral and herbal undertones add complexity, creating a wine that evolves in the glass.
Palate The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with flavours of blackberry, plum, and dark cherry, complemented by peppery spice and savoury nuances. Well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity provide a smooth, structured mouthfeel. The finish is long and persistent, with layers of complexity that linger.
Food Pairing Perfectly suited to rich, hearty dishes such as grilled lamb, venison, or slow-roasted beef. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses like Manchego or a charcuterie platter.
Cellaring While showing beautifully now, this wine will continue to evolve and improve with age, peaking between 2025 and 2032.
Interesting Fact The Gimblett Gravels region is renowned for its stony soils, which provide exceptional drainage and heat retention, creating ideal conditions for Syrah and other Bordeaux varietals.
