Ata Rangi’s Pōtiki Chardonnay 2023 is crafted from premium fruit grown in Martinborough, with vines planted on alluvial river terraces. Hand-harvested grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeasts in French oak barrels (20% new). Aged on lees with occasional stirring, the wine is unfined and lightly filtered to preserve texture and purity. Pōtiki (meaning "youngest child" in te reo Māori) is a vibrant, expressive younger sibling to Ata Rangi’s flagship Chardonnay.
Bouquet Bright and fragrant with aromas of white peach, lemon curd, and almond, supported by hints of flint, brioche, and subtle oak spice.
Palate Elegant and finely textured. Stone fruit, citrus, and nougat glide across a creamy mid-palate, lifted by fresh acidity and a mineral edge. The finish is long and graceful, with a gentle touch of oak.
Food Pairing Perfect with roasted chicken, crayfish, creamy risottos, or soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert. Also a lovely match for grilled peaches or a nutty pumpkin dish.
Cellaring Enjoy now for its vibrancy or cellar through 2028 to develop added complexity and richness.
Interesting Fact Pōtiki is not just the name of the wine but a celebration of new beginnings—it reflects Ata Rangi’s continued evolution and the next generation of Martinborough winemaking.
