Winemaking
Célèbre is a deeply personal wine for Ata Rangi—crafted as a homage to the great reds of the southern Rhône, yet uniquely expressive of Martinborough’s climate and soils. The 2022 vintage blends Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on gravels that encourage deep roots and concentrated fruit. Fermented separately in small lots and matured in French oak for 12 months, the components are blended for harmony, depth, and vibrant drinkability.

Bouquet
A lifted nose of red plum, raspberry, and black cherry, intertwined with hints of dried herbs, black pepper, cedar, and a subtle savoury note. Fragrant and intriguing with layers of spice and earth.

Palate
Medium-bodied and silky with red and black fruits, fine tannins, and a touch of graphite. The Syrah brings spice and perfume, Merlot adds softness and warmth, while the Cabernet gives structure and drive. The finish is long, savoury, and beautifully poised.

Food Pairing
A versatile red that shines with herby roast lamb, cassoulet, grilled mushrooms, or Mediterranean vegetable dishes. Equally at home at a dinner party or with a rustic Sunday roast.

Cellaring
Beautiful now with a short decant, and will continue to develop over the next 6–8 years with added texture and complexity.

Interesting Fact
First made in the early 1990s, Célèbre (meaning “to celebrate” in French) reflects Ata Rangi’s love for Rhône blends—and their belief that serious red wine can still bring pure enjoyment to the table.
