Production & Maturation Amigos Aotearoa Mezcal is a handcrafted spirit born from a partnership between New Zealand-based founders and mezcaleros in Oaxaca, Mexico. Made from 100% agave espadín, the piñas are roasted in traditional earthen pits, crushed by tahona stone, fermented naturally, and distilled in copper pot stills. This artisanal mezcal is bottled at 45% and left unaged to showcase pure agave flavour with a distinctly smoky backbone.
Nose Rich and rustic with notes of wood smoke, roasted agave, pepper and fresh herbs. A whisper of citrus and crushed stone adds brightness and minerality.
Palate Bold and earthy, the palate opens with smoked agave, leather and campfire ash. Hints of lime peel, green olive and black pepper add savoury complexity. The finish is dry, smoky and long, with lingering spice and vegetal character.
Food Pairing Pairs beautifully with barbecued meats, fire-grilled vegetables or charred corn with lime. Also excellent with ceviche, dark chocolate or mezcal-cured salmon.
Cellaring Best enjoyed now for its vibrant smoky edge. A spirit that rewards slow sipping and sharing with good company.
Interesting Fact Though crafted in Oaxaca, Amigos Aotearoa is proudly connected to New Zealand—bringing together Māori and Mexican cultures through shared values of whenua (land), community, and storytelling in every bottle.
