Agricola Punica Montessu Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2021, often referred to as a "Sardinian Sassicaia," is a masterful creation from the same team behind the legendary Tuscan wine Giacomo Tachis. This wine is a harmonious blend of 60% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, and 10% Syrah, all sourced from the spurred cordon vines of the Basso Sulcis region. The medium-textured calcareous, clay, and sandy soils, coupled with Sardinia's hot, dry summers and temperate winters, impart a unique character to the wine. The must undergoes fermentation with the skins at 25-30°C and is periodically pumped over to enhance extraction. Malolactic fermentation adds a roundness, and ageing in French oak barrels for 12 months brings further complexity. In the glass, it presents a deep ruby red colour, with an intensely fruity aroma complemented by a hint of liquorice. On the palate, it is elegant and full-bodied, showcasing soft, warm dark plummy fruit, gentle tannins, and a lovely length, making it a tremendous value and a testament to the growing allure of Sardinian wines.
