Sourced from Northland’s Bay of Islands, this Albariño is a rare northern gem that thrives in Aotearoa’s warmer maritime climate. The 2023 vintage was fermented in stainless steel to preserve aromatic purity and freshness, with a short time on lees to build mouthfeel. The wine is dry and saline, showcasing the influence of its coastal proximity and subtropical sunshine.
Bouquet
Bright and breezy, the nose opens with notes of lime zest, nectarine, and white peach, supported by floral hints of orange blossom and crushed herbs. A trace of sea spray and minerality gives the bouquet a distinctly oceanic lift.
Palate
Crisp and focused. Juicy citrus and orchard fruit glide across a sleek palate, underscored by a fine line of acidity and subtle salinity. Lees ageing adds a gentle creaminess to the texture, while the finish is long, zesty, and mouthwatering. Pure coastal refreshment in a glass.
Food Pairing
Perfect with fresh oysters, grilled prawns, or pan-seared snapper with lemon and herbs. Also beautiful with goat’s cheese, sushi, or light Vietnamese salads.
Interesting Fact
Named after the 144 islands scattered throughout the Bay of Islands, this is one of the northernmost Albariños in New Zealand—grown just a few kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, where sea breezes shape both the vines and the wine.
