The 2012 Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque is a powerhouse Syrah-Viognier blend crafted from vines planted on the Côte Brune, where the darker soils yield more structured, intensely flavoured wines. Comprising 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, co-fermented and aged for over 40 months in new French oak, this is a wine of immense detail, power and finesse. The vintage offered balance and elegance, with exceptional fruit concentration.
Bouquet Dark and exotic on the nose, with intense notes of blackberry, black olive, cured meat and violets. Hints of liquorice, espresso and spice layer beneath the fruit, revealing the depth and complexity expected of a wine from this legendary site.
Palate La Turque 2012 is bold and richly textured, yet perfectly poised. Dense dark fruits dominate, supported by firm tannins and beautifully integrated oak. The Viognier component brings lift and floral elegance, adding dimension to the wine’s savoury, powerful structure and its long, polished finish.
Food Pairing This is a commanding red ideal with slow-cooked beef short ribs, game meats or duck breast with blackberry jus. Also excellent with mature hard cheeses or porcini-based dishes.
Cellaring This wine is just entering its prime and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 20 to 30 years. Decant well in advance if drinking now.
