Sourced from Akitu’s high-altitude vineyard in Wanaka, Central Otago, the 2021 A1 Pinot Noir is crafted with precision and minimal intervention. Fermented with a portion of whole bunches and matured in French oak, including a proportion of new barrels, this wine reflects its alpine origins with clarity and finesse.
Bouquet Aromatic layers of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, complemented by notes of rose petal, cinnamon and subtle forest floor. Hints of cedar and dried herbs emerge as the wine opens, adding depth and intrigue.
Palate Medium-bodied and finely structured, the palate offers a harmonious blend of ripe red fruits, earthy undertones and well-integrated tannins. A vibrant acidity provides freshness, leading to a long, elegant finish with a touch of spice.
Food Pairing Ideal with roast duck, venison loin or mushroom risotto. The wine's balance of fruit and savoury notes complements dishes with earthy flavours and rich textures.
Cellaring Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit expression or cellar through to 2028 to allow further development of tertiary characteristics and complexity.
Interesting Fact The name "Akitu" means "summit" in Māori, reflecting the vineyard's elevated position in the Southern Alps, which contributes to the wine's distinctive character and elegance.
